Carving plates are made from high-density polyethylene (HD PE 1000). Because this material has an inherently oily structure, it allows smooth gliding across the surface of the board and does not interfere with its flex. The plates touch the board only along two parallel lines on each side, enabling direct force transfer to the edge without bending the board under the bindings. At the front and back, six centimeters of the plate are shaped into a precise parabola that follows the natural flex line of the snowboard. Unlike bindings, the board and the plate never touch at a single point. They also never make contact with a sharp edge; instead, the plate gradually tapers away from the board. As pressure increases (when the board flexes), more of the plate makes contact with the board. As a result, the board becomes stiffer and gains a progressive flex characteristic—the more pressure you apply, the greater resistance it provides. The plates also feature two foam pads at the front and back, which further dampen vibrations.

Carving plates have four main functions:

1. Direct transfer of force to the board’s edge without bending the board.
2. Improved contact with the board, providing better pressure distribution on critical areas (in front of the front binding and behind the rear binding).
3. Increased height from the ground, allowing greater edge angles without boot drag, even on narrower boards.
4. Vibration damping and a smoother riding experience.
